Dolores E. Allen, 84, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, September 01, 2010 in Union Hospital at Dover following a period of declining health. A daughter of the late Jess and Mary Snyder, Dolores was born August 4, 1926 at Germano, Ohio.

Dolores was a 1944 graduate of Jewett High School and in the same year she married the love of her life, Harold W. “Bill” Allen.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Leona Pissocra, Dorothy Prosser and Martha Young. In keeping with Dolores’ wishes there will be no public calling hours or services and cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.  Inurnment will be held in Forest Hill Cemetery at Canton at a later date. Genevieve Manbeck Bossick, 89, Scio died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010 at Trinity Medical Center, West in Steubenville. Born June 14, 1921 in Stock Twp., Harrison Co., she was a daughter of the late Paul and Mary Baker Manbeck. She married the love of her life John “Jack” Bossick on December 21, 1943.

She was preceded in death by her husband “Jack” Bossick on March 26, 2009, two brothers-in-law and six sisters-in-law.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Fairview Gardens Cemetery, Jewett, with Father Francis and Father McGuire officiating. Koch Funeral Home, Scio was in charge of arrangements.

Ida Dora “Dora” Armstrong-Brower, age 87, of Carrollton, Ohio, formerly of Uhrichsville and Scio, died peacefully at 12:10 a.m. on Monday, August 30, 2010 in Union Hospital at Dover, Ohio following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late George Allen and Nannie Oena (Tinney) Ohler, Dora was born on July 13, 1923 in Dennison, Ohio.

She was the loving wife of Alvin Jurdin Armstrong who died on June 30, 1957.

In addition to her parents, and first husband, Dora was preceded in death by her second husband, Thomas Johnston Brower who died July 16, 1972; two sons Dennis Dane Armstrong and David Allen Armstrong: two brothers, George Dean Ohler (her twin) and Paul Leroy Ohler; and four sisters, Dorothy Faye Burnett, Wilma Ruth Shamblin, Mary Selena Heiser, and Patricia Joanna Peters.

Services for Dora, officiated by Rev. Henry Mooney, will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 3, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow in Greenmont Union Cemetery at Freeport, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. Thelma C. Moore Paar, 84, of Scio, died suddenly Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010 in Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz.

Born Dec. 4, 1925 in New Cumberland, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Donald and Mable Barber Moore.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, James Paar, on Dec. 12, 2005. They were married June 28, 1974.

Services will be held Wednesday, Sept 1, 2010 at 11 a.m. in Koch Funeral Home, Scio with Pastor Roger Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Scio. Mary Dorothy Louise Matthews Bonecutter, 90, Bloomingdale, died Aug. 27, 2010 at Trinity East. She was born June 11, 1920 at home on Salt Run in Jefferson County. She was the daughter of the late William Morgan Matthews and Myrtle Matthews Noble, and Stepfather Cornel Noble.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Richard Bonecutter Sr.; grandson Richard J. Bonecutter III; sister, Hazel Bell; brothers James, William, Raymond and Lester Matthews and son in law Jack Milligan of Cumberland who died Aug. 22, 2010.

Friends and family may call from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 30 and Tuesday Aug. 31 from noon-1 p.m. at Blackburn Funeral Home, Hopedale. Service will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Unionport Cemetery. A full obituary will appear in the next edition of the Harrison News-Herald.

Cody B. Miller, 18, Cadiz, died Friday, August 27, 2010 in the emergency room at Harrison Community Hospital the result of an automobile accident. Cody was born January 4, 1992 in Steubenville, Ohio a son of Dale Miller of Wadsworth and Rae Ann Newell of Cadiz, Ohio.

Harry Willard Tipton, age 85, of 34320 Belmont Ridge Road, Piedmont, Ohio died at 6:16 a.m. Thursday, August 26, 2010 in Wyant Woods Care Center, Akron.

Born July 13, 1925 on Belmont Ridge, Belmont County, Ohio, he was a son of the late Harry Melvin Tipton and Bessie Isabelle VanFossen Tipton.

He was preceded in death by four siblings.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 30, in Koch Funeral Home, 216 South High Street, Freeport with Pastor Jim Walter officiating. Burial will follow in Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing Township, Belmont County, Ohio. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral home. Helen M. Garner, age 95, a longtime Leesville, Ohio resident, died early Thursday morning, August 26, 2010 in the Hanover House at Massillon.

She was born September 20, 1914 in Bellaire, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Helen Allen Scott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cyril Garner, who died October 27, 1972, one son Robert Garner, and five brothers.

A public graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, August 29, 2010 in the Leesville Cemetery at Leesville, Ohio with Rev. Peggy Garner officiating. Veranetta Mae Compher, age 85, of Scio, formerly of Piedmont died at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2010 in Great Trail Care Center, Minerva, Ohio. Born July 4, 1925 in Louisville, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late Abbott Simcoe and Betty Johnstone Simcoe.

Her husband, Donald D. Compher, died July 28, 1996. Two brothers, Robert Simcoe and Willace “Speedy” Simco  preceded her in death.

A service and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010 in Rock Hill Cemetery, Flushing Township, Belmont County, Ohio. Koch Funeral Home, Freeport handled the arrangements. A full obituary will appear in the next issue of the Harrison News-Herald.
