HOPEDALE – Harrison East Elementary was lauded for raising more than 301 pounds of coins in a special benefit for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Overall, the school raised more than $1,260 for the Muskingum Lakes Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Jennifer McCann’s fifth-grade class earned the most with 48 pounds and gained a pizza party for their efforts on March 1, while the Muskingum Lakes Chapter of the American Red Cross presented them with an Outreach Award.
It’s not the first time Harrison East has reached out to aid others. Other charities and community causes they have supported include the Share A Christmas and Stuff the Bus toy collections, Pennies for Patients and even local soldiers by making cards for the Harrison County Military Support Group. The kids are also sprucing up school grounds with the Community Friendship Garden established by teacher Julia Carman.
