CADIZ – Arraignments were held this past week for the latest crop of grand jury indictments, including 13 people charged in a recent drug roundup.

Law enforcement officials conducted a series of busts around March 15 after more than a dozen people were secretly indicted. Charges stem from a months-long sting operation with several of the suspects charged under state Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) statutes.

The subjects are accused of operating a sophisticated drug ring that brought cocaine, marijuana and prescription pills from Youngstown and Steubenville, some of which were purchased by authorities for roughly $5,000. The investigation was a combined effort of The Multi County L.E.A.D.S. Task Force, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and the Jewett and Cadiz Police Departments.
