Disaster drill keeps safety forces prepared
During a mock disaster exercise in Scio on April 5, there were two scenarios played out, one involving a propane pipeline leak with an evacuation of residents and a fatal crash involving a minor nitrogen spill.
Crews from Scio, Jewett, Bowerston, Tappan Lake, Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and Harrison Community Hospital EMS participated with an emergency shelter open at the Jewett Fire Station.
Pictured are Jewett firefighters handling the “fatal” tanker accident involving volunteers Douglas Arbaugh, Autumn Ash and Sara Bethel as the crash victims.
The drill is a requirement for grant funding but also prepares units to respond to a real situation.
Read the complete story about the detailed exercise and its evaluation in the April 13, 2013 print edition of the Harrison News-Herald.
