Cadiz gets new chief, councilman

New chief 8-3

Sgt. Ryan McCann has a new title, chief of the Cadiz Police Department.

McCann was hired during the July 25 village council session and replaces longtime leader Bryan Dowdle. Coffland, another lifelong resident who previously served on council and the Harrison Hills City School Board, replaces Councilman Mike McPeak, who attended his final session that evening.

“We had several [applicants] that were very capable, but one had a lot of experience,” said Council President Curt Crawshaw. “I’d like to nominate Paul Coffland to fill that seat for the next meeting.”

Like McPeak, Coffland was involved with the Sally Buffalo Park Board and Cadiz Community Improvement Corp during his previous tenure. Council ultimately approved the motion and Coffland, who was in attendance, was also greeted with applause.
