CADIZ – Dozens of residents bundled up in the chilly November weather to recognize the sacrifice soldiers past and present have made during the annual Veterans Day ceremony on Monday.
Flags, signs and boots with pictures of active soldiers and past military personnel dotted the Harrison County Courthouse lawn as the Harrison Central Jr./Sr. High School Marching Band and Paul Matson provided the patriotic soundtrack for the day. Veterans Service Commission President Andy Atkins addressed the crowd and thanked veterans, active and fallen soldiers for all they have done in the name of freedom.
County Veterans Service Officer Dave Rose read a resolution from Ohio Gov. John Kasich in honor of the holiday. The featured speaker was 1st Sgt. Eugene Randolph of Cadizhas who has served with the U.S. Marine Corps and Ohio Army National Guard for the past 27 years and plans to retire this May, after which he will take the post as county VSO upon Rose’s retirement.
