Deersville United Methodist Church women gather each month for the Woody Paul Blanket Mission, in which homemade coverings are sent to people who are ill, bereaved or in the midst of personal struggles. More than 500 blankets have been sent around the world since the mission began seven years ago.
The most recent session included Penelope Clark, Nancy Sukosd, Joy Miles, Denise Smith, Kay Kocher, Edith Taylor and Lois Poulson but roughly a dozen people have attended in the past.
“We usually make 10-12 blankets [during one session] but it just depends,” noted Sukosd. “This past year, 98 blankets were made by 96 women in the church and the community.”
“If we can give comfort to some one, we will,” Sukosd added.
The church itself has about 61 members. Sunday School is held at 9:45 a.m. with worship at 11 a.m. For more information about the mission, contact Clark at 740-922-7522.
