Conotton’s Great Blue Heron Rookery… Something to see!

CONOTTON – As you approach Mile Marker 2 on the Conotton Creek Trail, you may think you’ve stepped into a scene from Jurassic Park. Perched high among the Sycamore trees is the trail’s Great Blue Heron rookery, boasting over twenty nests.

These graceful birds can be up to four feet tall, continually stand guard over their nests, resembling the pterodactyls of pre-historic times.  Their throaty croaks signal agitation or alarm, and echo eerily through the Conotton Valley.

Conotton’s Blue Heron Rookery, Conotton history and a Bowerston notable are featured on the community page in this weeks print edition of the Harrison News-Herald.
