HOPEDALE – Starting in 2002, Kevin Yoho and his father, Mark, spent their weekends on ATV trails in the area so they could enjoy some quality time together. Little did they know that in just nine short years, that passion for riding would give Kevin the opportunity to ride professionally at the age of 22.

“My dad and I started riding with his co-worker, Tom Derby. Tom suggested one afternoon that I give racing a try, so we thought, why not?” Kevin recalled. That was in 2002, during the racing season, and Kevin still managed to finish in the middle of the pack. The following year he ran the complete Competition Riders of America (CRA) series, and won the beginner’s class.

In 2007, Kevin entered the Pro Am division placing seventh at the season’s end. He started to make the switch over to the Pro division during the 2010 racing season, managing a thirteenth place finish as a rookie professional driver. The 2011 season is Yoho’s first full circuit as a professional rider in the Grand National Cross Country series, and he is currently holding the rank of eighth in the nation.

You can follow Kevin Yoho’s climb to the Pros in the Outdoors & Recreation pages of this weeks print edition of the Harrison News-Herald.  Also included in the section are some great family fun ideas for the summer, right here in Harrison County.
