Natural resource tax suggested to leaders

CADIZ – The boon in oil and gas drilling around Harrison County has spurred one resident to suggest a 1-percent tax on what is taken from local ground.

Joyce Klingler, an agent for the Harrison County Concerned Citizens group, had pushed for similar assessments on coal in the past but told county commissioners on Wednesday that stipulations should be put in place for companies drilling the Marcellus and Utica Shale. Klingler referred to Ohio Revised Code 5739.021 and said the county’s current money crunch, plus impending cuts on the state level, put it in a position to seek some extra income.

Details on the suggestion and further discussions can be found in this weeks print edition of the Harrison News-Herald.
