Adena monument proposed

ADENA – Adena High School Alumni member Mitch Toto pictured, presented the group’s idea for an Adena High School Memorial to be located in the village at the recent village council meeting. Pictured with him is phase one of the project, a picture of Adena High School that would be placed on a plaque and housed on a large slab of sandstone. This phase of the project would begin right away, if approved, in order to tentatively be available for viewing on August 13, Heritage Day.
Phase two would consist of a patio that would surround the memorial, made of bricks engraved with messages for/from students, staff, family, etc. that could be purchased for a set donation. The money raised for the bricks would then be used for a scholarship for a student that lives in Adena, or has ties to the Adena High School.
The Alumni group at first wanted the memorial to be placed at the village green, but do to upcoming projects; council offered them a spot close to the bell at the former elementary school, now the community center. “We will do everything that we can to work with you and help you with this project,” Mayor Yeskey stated. The alumni group accepted this offer and thanked council for allowing them to go ahead with the project. Council also voted unanimously to secure one room in the community center to be used as an Adena High School memorabilia room.
Other business that took place at the recent Adena Council meeting can be found in this weeks print edition of the Harrison News-Herald.
