Finger lickin’ good!

On Aug. 27, Fire Department members fed over one hundred Chicken BBQs at 1 p.m. (pictured above), and the Jewett UMC started off the morning by serving breakfast to early risers from 8-11 a.m. during Jewett’s 1st Annual Community Day. The village and JWCC committee members would like to thank everyone who helped make the day a success, including the Jewett VFW, Jewett VFD, Jewett UMC, and Scio VFD. “Thank you to all of the residents that came out and enjoyed a fun filled day,” Mayor Busby said. “It was wonderful to see the community work together to have such a great time of food and fun.”

Pictured below, over 50 cars were on display at the town’s first annual car show. Car owners from all over Ohio dropped by to enjoy oldies music and some fabulous BBQ, Jewett style. The dunk tank was also a favorite for towns people, each trying their luck at drenching the bank manager, coaches, village officials, and even Police Chief Ron Carter. 1. How well I remember that field and the view behind it. Those houses in the background and several others not pictured; homes for members of the now defunct Germano Grange and the Jewett Methodist Church. That Jewett Volunteer Fireman’s Fair was held not far away and I can still recall the smell of leather, crushed grass and horse; sitting atop one of those ponys—doomed to spend their working lives walking in a continuous circle, carrying children who got to experience a brief moment of fantasy, that they were close to leading the life of a cowboy.
