SCIO – After two years of prayer, and months of planning meetings, the Scio Farmers Market idea is finally coming to fruition. The Farmers Market will kick off its opening day on June 2 in the parking area of the Scio United Methodist Church from 8 a.m.-noon.
The market will feature all things homegrown and handmade, and welcomes all in the area a chance to sell their wares to the community. Organizer Pastor Karen Heyburn shared that the church is excited to get the project underway. “This is an outreach ministry of the church, and it will also be a time to encourage, learn, and support one another. It will also give the entire area the chance to see what a beautiful place Scio is.”
The Farmers Market will be held on the first and third Saturdays of each month, and concessions will be available along with entertainment throughout the morning. The church’s restroom facilities will also be open for use to all as well.
Several members of the local Amish communities have been attending and planning the market along with Scio UMC members, and the growing response from everyone has been tremendous. The group is currently looking for more vendors, and those interested may contact Erin Thompson at 740-945-0277 or 740-491-6935, or Shannon Jenkins at 740-491-3417.
