Freeport stages a mock disaster

FREEPORT – Local fire and EMS departments took part in a mock disaster exercise outside the Select-O-Sep (former Harrison Lakeland Elementary School) property in Freeport on May 5. It was conducted by the Local Emergency Planning Committee and involved fire and EMS crews from Freeport, Washington Township, Tappan Lake and Harrison Community Hospital. About 35 people participated in the functional exercise.

Pictured are Freeport Fire Chief Bill Pittis, at center, with firefighters Travis Doane and Chris Arnold setting the scene of a collision between vehicles supposedly hauling hazardous materials. Details of the event can be found in this weeks print edition of the Harrison News-Herald.
