Fair numbers slightly down

Kids were warbling or horsing around at the Harrison County Fair as the event wrapped up its 165th year this past Saturday. Contests and shows were on the itinerary with many of the pictures and results in this weeks print edition of the Harrison News-Herald.

Numbers were slightly lower for the Fair on July 3-7 and officials said the scorching heat played a role. Temperatures soared to the triple digits Saturday and may have dissuaded some people from coming to the fairgrounds, but Fair Board President Don Jones still deemed the event a success.

“We were pretty satisfied as a board. We knew it would get hot and would affect attendance some,” he concluded. “We don’t know the final numbers but we know there are things we can improve upon next year. We’re going to start quick and try to move before fall to get ready for next year.”

I know the weather made it hard to conduct a successful fair, but where are the reports of judging or was it cancelled?
