Former sheriff being laid to rest

    HOPEDALE – Former Harrison County Sheriff Rich Rensi is being laid to rest this weekend following his death at age 71.

    Rensi, who is considered Harrison County’s longest-serving sheriff, served the community from 1971-96. He died at Akron General Hospital late Tuesday after suffering a heart attack at his garage in Hopedale. Funeral arrangements were being made through Blackburn Funeral Home in Hopedale with calling hours set for this Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. at Hopedale United Methodist Church. Funeral services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Law enforcement officers were expected to be pallbearers at the service, including current Sheriff Joe Myers, past Sheriff Mark Miller, Det. Lt. Bill Jones, Lt. Mark Touville, Deputy Bobby Brooks and Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla.

    1. I had the privilege and honor of working with Sheriff Rensi from 1973 to 1991. He was always a gentleman, happy to serve the public, and dedicated to his work. He was just a great person! My sincere sympathy to his wife and children and family and friends.

    2. WE ARE DEEPLY SADDENED BY THE PASSING OF RICH. PAUL HAD THE HONOR OF SERVING UNDER HIM AND HAS THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR RICH AS A EMPLOYER AND A PERSON AS WELL AS A FRIEND. RICH RENSI WAS A GOOD SHERIFF AND HE SERVED HARRISON COUNTY WITH HONOR AND PROFESSIONALISM. OUR SYMPATHIES AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO VERNA AND THEIR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN AND OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS AS WELL.

    3. We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Rich. Paul worked for Sheriff Rensi for many years,not only were they employer and employee but friends as well. I didn’t personally know Rich but remember him as the Sheriff of Harrison County and was impressed with his job performance. He was always Professional when he proudly wore his uniform. To Verna and Family, you have our sympathies and prayers and may God bring you comfort. Just remember one day you all will be reunited with Rich in Heaven…God Bless.

YEARS AGO PAUL WORKED FOR RICH, NOT ONLY DID THEY HAVING A WORKING RELATIONSHIP BUT A FRIENDSHIP AS WELL.I DID NOT PERSONALLY KNOW RICH, BUT KNEW HE WAS A GREAT SHERIFF WHO WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND WORE HIS UNIFORM WITH PRIDE.
