CADIZ – The widow of a longtime Harrison Hills City School Board member has been selected to take his place on the panel.
Officials conducted a brief special session on Tuesday to appoint Scio resident Betty Hugh, wife of the recently deceased board member Robert Hugh, to fulfill his unexpired term. He served the school system in various capacities over a period of four decades, from bus driver and teacher to principal and school board member. Harrison Hills leaders were saddened by his death in August and said he made a valuable contribution to the community. The special session was held in order to follow guidelines since the board had up to 30 days to name his successor. Officials said they received one inquiry about the post and were pleased that Hugh agreed to participate.
Joined by daughters, Cathy Gretchen and Beth McIntosh, and granddaughter Samantha McIntosh, Betty Hugh was welcomed into the fold and took her seat at the table. She will complete the term, which ends Dec. 31, 2013.
Hugh is pictured with Superintendent Dr. George Ash following the session.
