Stirrin’ up something good in Unionport

UNIONPORT – Ralph Simmons and Scott Burchfield above, stir up fresh apple butter as volunteer Chris Courtnell looks on. Volunteers have kept busy over the past few weeks as they gear up for the 34th Annual Apple Stirrin’ Time in Unionport Oct. 20-21. Food, entertainment and all things apple will be offered at the grounds off County Road 39.

Pictured right, it takes many an hour and lots of stirring over open flame for apples to condense into sweet, gooey goodness. Hundreds of gallons of apple butter are cooled and canned for sale at the festival and the concoction is quite popular with the crowds.

Free admission and parking are available with free coffee on Sunday. Apple Stirrin’ Time can be accessed off U.S. 22 about three miles north of Bloomingdale or off Ohio 43 about seven miles south of East Springfield.
