Students decorate for fall

Fourth-graders at Harrison East Elementary School hosted the first-ever Fall Urn Decorating Contest with each grade level participating. Claren Blackburn, Dawn Sarvas of Hopedale Florist, Gene Raber and Shirley Raber judged the event with Mrs. Nigh’s first grade (pictured) winning the prize. Those students will be treated to a presentation of “D.C. Riddle Rally” by the fourth-grade Reader’s Theater Drama Club and share cake with the “actors.”

Organizers thanked Gene Raber, a retired custodian, who has donated to the Friendship Flower Garden Club for the past three years. The next phase will involve perennials and all donations are appreciated.

Plans are being made to hold a poetry reading day on the front lawn near the garden with parents and grandparents. Also featured below are Harrison East Elementary School’s Fourth Grade Reader’s Theater who shared cake with the first-grade class, which recently won the school’s urn decorating contest. Intervention Specialist Jennifer Starr also helped the students.
