Richard Lee "Dick" Moore,
77, Scio, died June 23, 2009 at
his home.
He was born Nov. 2, 1931 in Bergholz, a son of Bernice Pyles
Moore, a resident of the Harrison County Home and the late Donald
A. Moore.
He graduated from Scio High School in 1950 and served in the
Army during the Korean War. He worked for the Scio Pottery for
over 10 years and Republic Steel of Canton for 35 years, where
he retired as journeyman electrician.
He was a member of the Scio United Methodist Church, a lifetime
member of the Scio American Legion Post #482, a member of the
40/8, Jewett VFW, Scio Masonic Lodge #587 and was a 32nd Degree
Mason in the Valley of Steubenville. He was an avid outdoorsman
and for many years enjoyed deer hunting, belonging to the Ohio
Big Buck club, but in more recent years he enjoyed turkey hunting.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by an infant
brother.
Surviving are his wife Alice Watson Moore; a son Donald Allen
Moore of Dennison; a daughter Anna Lee (Bob) Whitman of Uhrichsville;
grandson Joseph Alan Colins of Uhrichsville; close friends Gordon
Custer of Scio and Kelly Hildabrand of Massillon and his two
dogs Onxy and Kooie.
Services will be held Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 11 a.m. in Koch
Funeral Home, Scio with the Rev. Karen Heyburn officiating.

Wayne Scott Hawkins, 65, Hopedale, died on June 22, 2009 in Trinity Medical Center
West, Steubenville.
He was born Sept. 23, 1943 in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late
John O. Hawkins and Rose M. Skipper Hawkins.
He graduated from Jewett High School in 1962 and retired from
Weirton Steel in 1993.
He was a member of the Unionport Masonic Lodge 333, Bethel Methodist
Church and 660th Army Reserves in Cadiz.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother
Richard S. Hawkins and a brother-in-law Donald Beiber.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years Violet F. Beiber Hawkins;
a son John H. (Veronica) Hawkins of Wanatah, IN; a daughter Tina
J.(John) Hertzel of Chicago, IL; sisters-in-law Catherine Hawkins-Farnsworth
and Shirley Beiber and brother and sister-in-law Ed and Virginia
Beiber.
Services were held Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 11 a.m. in Bethel
Church, Hopedale with the Rev. Rodney Bowers officiating.
Henrietta Garlinger, 70, Hopedale, died June 23, 2009 in Cleveland Clinic.
She was born Oct. 20, 1938 in Glen Robins, Ohio, a daughter of
the late Henry and Agnes Kuhn Sterling.
She was a graduate of Tiltonsville High School Class of 1956.
She married Donald Garlinger Dec. 17, 1956. She was an avid bingo
player and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two
sisters, Betty Gault, Mary Canter and an infant daughter Becky
Garlinger.
She is survived by her husband Donald Garlinger of Hopedale;
two sons, Donald (Carol) Garlinger Jr. of Hopedale, Ronald (Cyndi)
Garlinger of Houston, Texas; two daughters, Ruth Culver and Lynette
(Ernest) Roghelia both of Hopedale; five grandchildren, Melissa
(John) Thompson, Tom (Joanna) Culver Jr., Casie (Darren) Johnson,
Elliott Garlinger, Elizabeth Garlinger; five great-grandchildren,
J.T. Thompson, Trista Thompson, Tirzah Curry, Nessa Culver, Payton
Culver.
Services were at the Blackburn Funeral Home, Hopedale, on June
26 with Pastor Dean Blythe officiating. Burial followed at the
Hopedale Cemetery.
Kenneth E. McCombs, 84, Cadiz, died Monday, June 15, 2009
at Trinity West Medical Center in Steubenville. Private services
will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrison Community
Hospital Emergency Squad Department, 951 E. Market St., Cadiz,
Ohio 43907. Arrangements are by Clark-Kirkland Funeral Home,
Cadiz.
SFC Joseph Habash (ret) 69, Scio, died June 11, 2009 in Ohio Valley Hospital, Wheeling,
W.Va.
He was born July 16, 1939 in Harrison County, a son of Mary Lucik
Fowler who resides at the Harrison County Home an the late Anthony
Habash. Raised in Hopedale he entered the Marines at age 17.
After three years of service he entered the Army where he served
for 20 years retiring in 1980 from Ft. Ord in Monterey, CA. He
moved back to Harrison County in 1995.
He was a member of the Carrollton DAV. He enjoyed fishing, gardening,
bird watching, reading and gambling.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife
Marjorie Habash; sons Todd Allen, David Michael ad Joseph Anthony
Habash; brothers Vince and Mark Rago.
Surviving are daughters, Darla (William) McGaugh of Sea Side,
CA. and Deeanna Habash of Templeton, CA.; seven grandchildren;
four great-grandchildren; brothers, Anthony "Butch"
Habash of Cadiz, Albert (Rita) Habash of Toronto and Mason Fowler
of Hopedale.
A memorial service celebrating his life was held on Thursday,
June 18, in Koch Funeral Home, Scio with Pastor Dean Blythe officiating.
In lieu of floweras memorial contributions may be made to the
Carrollton DAV.
Rachel Jenave Henwood, 91, Steubenville, formerly of Cadiz, died June 16, 2009 at her home.
She was born Aug. 7, 1917 in White Pine, W.Va., a daughter of
the late Hamilton and Electa Norris Wease.
She was a member of the New Life Worship Center in Weirton, W.Va.,
and was a retired school secretary in Okeechobee, FL.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband William C. Henwood; a daughter Carol Joyce Henwood and
two brothers, Paul and Ronzel Wease.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. William R. and Eleanor Henwood of
Sharon, Pa. and Harry and Ronelle Henwood of Spring Hill, Fl.;
a daughter, with whom she resided, Dianne Mazeroski and Donnie
Milliken of Steubenville; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren
and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were on June 20 at the Clark-Kirkland Funeral
Home, Cadiz, with the Rev. Robert Mazeroski officiating. Burial
will follow at Cadiz Union Cemetery.

Gayle Marie Ryser, 73, of Titusville,
Fla., died June 14, 2009.
She was born Dec. 7, 1935 in Warren, Ohio to Ernest A. and Teresa
M. (Thompson) Gardner. She attended 16 schools and graduated
from high school at age 16, as the family moved across the country
with her father's career.
Gayle met the love of her life at age 15 and two years later
they were married on Nov. 15, 1953 in Vermillion. She lived her
life with both graciousness and dignity as a wife, mother, and
friend. Careers as a teacher, real estate agent and broker led
her and her family to own and operate Clendening lake Marina
in Freeport. They retired in and moved to TGO, Florida in 1997,
where she was active in the TGO Sewing Club and the Space Coast
Quilter's Guild.
Surviving are her husband Bill of Titusville; daughter Sheri
and finance Bob of Titusville, sons Rick and wife Kathy of Malvern
and Rob and wife Annette of Freeport; sister Linda and husband
Russ Paddock of Hudson; brother Neal Gardner of Cleveland; four
granddaughters; great-granddaughter; numerous loving friends
and family in Florida and Ohio.
Cremation will take place at her request, no service. In celebration
of Gayle's life, knit a cap for a cancer patient or make a quilt
for a child in need. Condolences may be sent to 546 Twin Lakes
Dr. Titusville, Fl. 32780. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions

Mary Elizabeth Watson (nee Gray), Kent,
died June 12, 2009 after a long
and courageous battle with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Formerly
of Scio, she had been living in Kent for the past five years
to be near her son Jim and his family.
She was born Sept. 5, 1922 in Dennison, the third of five daughters
born to Earl Alfonse and Sarah Margaret (Nichols) Gray of Scio.
She attended Scio High School and worked at the Scio Post Office
following graduation in 1940.
She met John Henry Watson during high school and they wrote to
one another every day for three and half years during World War
II.
She and John married on Oct. 5, 1945. She was an active member
of the Scio Methodist Church where she faithfully served in the
children's nursery and taught Sunday School for many years, as
well as a choir member.
She also was involved with several church activities, including
the annual Rose Breakfast and the United Methodist Women, for
which she served as a district officer. She was also very involved
with and supportive of the Scio Library.
She captured part of her experience with the Lord, her family
and friends and wit life in general, through a series of poems
she composed over the years.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband
of 58 years, John Watson; a son Joseph Watson; sisters, Earlene
Petty, Ruth Elliott and Patricia Matovich.
Surviving are her sons John "Jack" (Judy) Watson of
State College, Pa., James (Janet) Watson of Kent; grandchildren
Jeff and Jason Watson of Scottsdale, AZ. and John and Elizabeth
Watson of Kent; sister Florence Huffman of Newark and in-laws
Bea and Ralph Simmons of Bloomingdale, Alice and Dick Moore of
Scio, Rusty Elliott of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Services were on June 16 Koch Funeral Home, Scio with the Rev.
Karen Heyburn officiating.

Melba Eileen Toole, 84, Dover, died on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, from Union Hospital
at Dover.
Born on February 23, 1925 in Scio, Melba was the eldest child
of the late J. Glenn Cope and N. Florence (Hidey) Cope. She grew
up in, and lived in, Harrison County for most of her life, moving
to Dover in 1992.
After graduating from Uhrichsville High School in 1943, Melba
went to work at E. D. Neikirk Co. in Cadiz, O. While working
there, Melba met the man with whom she would share her life,
World War II Army veteran, Lester E. Toole. They were married
on May 20, 1947 and enjoyed nearly forty-five years together
until his passing in December of 1991. She became a homemaker
and mother to two daughters, Linda (Toole) Allen (husband, Wayne
D. Allen, deceased) of Eustis, Fla. and Jane (Toole) Sloan (husband,
Larry J. Sloan) of Dover, who survive her. One grandson, Jason
E. Sloan of Dover survives and completes her immediate family.
Melba was a member of the East Market Street Church of Christ
in Cadiz. She enjoyed reading, collecting cookbooks and recipes,
and salt and pepper shakers. For several years, she was a member
of the Stumptown Steam Threshers Ladies' Auxiliary, The Tuscarawas
Valley Pioneer and Power Association Women's Auxiliary, and the
Brushyfork Homemakers Club.
Melba has two sisters surviving her, Eleanor Hubble of Deersville.
and Sharon Price of Flushing. One brother, Howard Cope, is deceased.
Calling hours will be on Sunday, June 21, from 5-8 p.m. at the
R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Services will be held
at the funeral home on Monday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Lester Nabb
officiating. Burial will be in Patterson Cemetery at Deersville.
